The course covers a range of areas including Fluid Mechanics, Mechatronic systems, Electrical and Electronic Measurement and Testing, Advanced Mathematics for Engineering, Mechanical Principles and Applications, Further Mathematics for Technicians, Analytical Methods for Engineers, Engineering Science, Project Design, Implementation and Evaluation. If you are able to progress on to the HND Level 5 you will study Engineering Thermodynamics, Strengths of Materials, Design for Manufacture, Further Analytical Methods for Engineers, Mechanical Principles, Electrical and Electronic principles and complete a Research Project. The units listed are a mixture of core and specialist units. It is an indicative list of units and is not intended as a definitive list.
What do I need?
One A Level or equivalent in mathematics or a suitable science-based subject. You can also enroll on the course if you have successfully completed the Access to Higher Education Diploma Engineering or BTEC National Diploma or Certificate in Engineering. Applicants must have a minimum of 80 UCAS points. Functional skills points are accepted in the tariff.

What does it lead to?
On successful completion of the Higher National certificate (HNC), students will be able to progress to the Higher National Diploma (HND) Engineering or the second year of an engineering degree course in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical and Electronic Engineering or employment in the Engineering Industry. If you complete the Higher National Diploma (HND) you can progress to the third year of an engineering degree programme.
